Wilderness Days - True jungle stories as never told before...

A fascinating story of a visionary wife who persuaded a powerful husband…

In 1904 Mary Victoria Curzon, the wife of the Viceroy of India, Lord Curzon, visited Kaziranga. Failing to spot a single rhinoceros, for which the area was renowned, she persuaded her husband to take urgent measures to protect the dwindling species. Lord Curzon obliged and in 1905, the area was designated a proposed Reserve Forest. Much later, in 1950, it became the Kaziranga Wildlife Sanctuary.

Often referred to as the ‘land of green valleys and blue hills’, Assam is undeniably famous for its tea gardens. But in the heart of the serene valley lies a tranquil calm animal habitat - the Kaziranga National Park – home of the famous Indian rhino. But few know that Kaziranga is also home for over 100 tigers and one-fifth of India’s elephant population. It has a long list of rich and varied wildlife that leaves one spellbound.

More than a century back a lady set the ball rolling… and Kaziranga National Park has truly set a high example in the field of wildlife conservation, regardless of the issues clinging on from all sides. The habitat has carved its own success story and we must ensure that there is no looking back now.

Join us tomorrow (Saturday, 1st June) at ‘WILDERNESS DAYS’ on DD National at 11 am or on DD India on Wednesday (5th June) at 8.30, 16.30 & 23.30 hrs. IST, worldwide and get initiated in this mission conservation.

When this gets a nod, such units would fall within the budget of a common man. Affordability plays a pivotal role in finalizing property buying. With this in place, many people would be able to buy apartments. He had been pleading the Government to realize the need and prepare some policy framework that allows vertical development with small sized units. He gave example of Andhra Pradesh (state) which doesn't follow any FSI norms while constructing any building. He welcomed the concept of going high.
